PICK THE PERFECT SHEETS

We don’t sell many sheets at A Goodnight Sleepstore mattress stores, but it’s important to us that we offer you all the information you need to have the ultimate sleep experience. A lot of companies and stores make a really big deal out of thread counts and special weaves, so we’re here to make all that information a little bit clearer.

It’s time for some smart shopping.

When you go shopping for sheets, it’s hard to tell the difference between a lot of sheets. It’s also impossible to tell how they will wear over time after several washes. We all want (or know we definitely don’t want) the kind of soft sheets we loved getting to use at our grandparents’ houses. But that’s not how sheets are made.

Here are a few tips to help you choose the perfect sheets to put on your new perfect mattress set.

You can’t count only on thread count.

Thread Count simply refers to the number of threads that are woven together in each square inch of fabric. It’s a great indicator of quality, but a high thread count alone doesn’t ensure a great sheet. Factors like the fabric used, the quality of the construction, and the ratio of horizontal threads to vertical threads can affect your comfort.

What kinds of threads are they?

There’s Egyptian, Pima, Organic, or just plain 100% Cotton. You can even have linen or silk. The highest quality threads are made from long-staple cottons like Pima.

Pay attention to ply.

“Ply” refers to the number of strands that are wrapped together to make a single thread. Technically, a sheet labeled 800 count could me made from 800 single-ply threads or 400 double-ply threads. Which is better is up to you. Single-ply sheets will be more cool and breathable, while multiple-ply sheets will be warmer and heavier.

There’s a sheet for all seasons.

While you need a nice year-round option available when you change the sheets, some types are better for specific conditions. For warmth in the winter, it’s great to have a soft multi-ply jersey or flannel sheet in the linen closet. If you like to cover up in the summer but still keep cool, a high-quality sateen or damask could feel great against your skin.

At the end of the day, the best sheets are the ones you love. If you’re not sure which to choose, opt for a few functional low-end versions and find out which ply or weave feels best to you.
